Best bygone pizza place.

 My mom reminded me about a pizza place we would visit in the lates 60's. Auggies on 60th & Burnham or Mitchell. Anyone recall this? My only recall is that it was dark and very red inside. My dad liked it a lot for some reason. Looking back it was like something out of a mafia movie.

 As a kid it was kind of scarey, very dark red, low lites. I am pretty sure it wasnt a go-go place in the 60's yet.

I lived on the south side of milwaukee and we all went to Maria's on about seventh and Greenfield. It was big and great and cheap enough to afford on our low allowances.  Gary H

Maria's always reminded me of Villa Roma on 35th & Oklahoma (now closed)

Villa Roma was once rated the 2nd best pizza in the Milwaukee area. (Ann`s in Hales Corners came in first) SO, ACTUALLY , at one time Villa Roma WAS the best pizza in Milwaukee. I always liked their jukebox back in the late 60`s early 70`s. They had lots of soul music. It was a Pulaski hang out.

Tech guy here. I would swing by Villa Roma once in a while, but usually went through a tank a gas hitting the Big Boy`s.

My personal favorite was Mama Mia's on 78th and Burleigh.
Eating there at their dining room was always neat.  It was
very low lighting in there, and the whole room always glowed
a reddish tint.

Calling in for a carry-out, you'd call and get a number to remember
and it was always 20 minutes.   And, of course, no order was
complete without a bag of their very buttery garlic bread.

In the carry-out waiting room they had one of those
cigarette machines that had the levers you'd pull out.
I'd always be futzing with that machine, pulling levers and
twisting the coin return, and every so often a few coins would
drop down into the coin return chute.

I`ve been eating Maria`s since they`ve been on Greenfield ave. , and still have it quite often from their Forest Home ave. restaurant. They are still going strong!

I don`t think Dino`s was on 16th and Greenfield?

I used to go to Pepi`s on 16th and Greenfield.

There was a Dino`s on Howell ave a couple of blocks south of Howard that was popular back in the 60`s and early 70`s.
