Capitol Court

I grew up on the northwest side. Capitol Court was the shopping center my family always went to.
My memories of it include:

First the mall was outdoor and when went to being enclosed ( when I was in HS). Then it made a great place to hang out when you wanted to cut class. Just a few blocks away from John Marshall HS.

The famous CC Christmas tree and the lighting ceremony every year. Someone would always say "We will now light the Christmas tree". followed by all the ooohs and aahhs of the crowd.

The Kooky Kooky house on the south end of the mall. I begged my parents to take me for years and one year they finally did. All the mechanical people inside along with Santa and the free gingerbread cookie you got after sitting on Santa's lap.

Walking outside in the center and hearing the noises that came up through the metal grates. I always heard trucks driving. Little did I know there where underground storage spaces for the stores.There were 2 areas where trucks went to get there. One was by JCPenney on the west side and by Gimbels on the east side.

There was a petting zoo when it was outside. Also the beautiful large flower planters in the middle.

The Kohls food store on the west side which had the large Santa on the corner of it during Christmas season.

The basement of Gimbels where was a deli counter, toy section at Christmas, snack bar with hot dogs and soft serve ice cream cones.

Funtown with rides and the train on the edge of the property off Fond Du Lac Ave and 60th street.
