review of new replacement candy raisins

Hi all,

 We attended the state fair in West Allis. It is really a throwback. Things change but they dont if that makes any sense. But enough of that. I fould the candy sunshines at half nuts who has been a long time seller at the fair. It is time to try them and let you know my thoughts!

 The good point is the texture. The ones that I purchased were soft and chewy. Just like a fresh batch as we remember.

 The color: slightly off, not as deep golden as we remember.
 
 The size: slightly smaller.

 The taste: Overall an ok chewy candy. The first chew is really encouraging and then it falls apart. There is a citrus aftertaste that is not that pleasant. They are sweet and ok. They seem to be on the right track which is encouraging. I suspect the citrus ingedient is the missing link.

 I do applaud the effort and give the maker a big thanks for trying.

 Overall grade: C-

 This was a quick review after having them for a day so there may be updates.

 Update.

 I have had the candy sunshine now for about a week . I have to say that they are growing on me. They really are pretty good. Probably about 80% of a candy raisin. A good candy though.

Taste test on reproduction candy raisins from Blain's Farm and Fleet on 4/3/15.  The manufacturer was not named, but only said the product was distributed by them.

The shape is different, looking like the mold used for "Dots".

I found the taste to be close, but not like the originals.  These have a slightly citrus after taste, which the originals did not.  Chewing taste is pretty close.   Maybe rosin is the missing ingredient?

Squash test:  Not the same.  New variety does not have an outer skin like the originals, which cracked and turned white when compressed.  These squash down, with similar properties of a 'rubber cabinet door bumper'.

The color is close, but pale to the originals, as remembered.

I give this latest variety an '8' with '10' being correct.

Ahhh , the famous Squash Test!

I bet they use corn syrup, rather then good old fashion sugar!

there is no doubt that there is a difference in taste from original verses new fake ones. Too bad. The old ones were awesome.
