South Star Dairy

 Anyone remember the days of milk being delivered to your home? Every once in awhile my mom would treat to chocolate milk!! We had a company called South Star Dairy which I think was around into the 70's near 8th or 9th and Dakota? Anyone have any info on them? Thanks.

I remember the "Bright Star Dairy" on the South Side in the 1960's. The company was owned by Bruno Blochowiak and was located at 2934 S 9th St. They closed their doors for good in late April 1972. I remember because my Grandma lived near the dairy and this was one of the few places that sold the 'bakers cheese' for her homemade cheese cake..yum!

Cuzins, I just got off the Phone with John BLOCHOWIAK Grandson of the John Blochowiak who was the co-founder of the Blochowiak Dairy in Milwaukee. He said he has many pictures of the dairy and other relatives but will have to go through the archives to find them.

John also remembered that back in the 40's and 50's his parents were sending letters and packages to relatives in Poland.. He will be trying to find names and addresses.

Our family tree as of 9-24-99:

Frank L. Blochowiak(1)Born in Poland Sept 1829 in Poland..............died in Eaton WI on 1-14-1907

Married to Barbara(1) (?) Barbara was born 1836 in Poland.................died 6-1930 in Eaton WIC.

Frank Immigrated to USA in 1870 through the Port of New York and first stayed in Bay View WIC. just outside of Milwaukee. Barbara came to the USA in 1872 with two (2) oldest children: Mary Blochowiak Valentine Blochowiak

Frank & Barbara stayed in Bay View, S Milwaukee until at least 1876 the year Anna Blochowiak-Pahuki was born.
Then Moved to farm in Eaton on Buyarski Rd between 7/1877 and 5/1879 when Stanley Blochowiak was born in the house in Eaton

 Thanks for your awesome reply! I am sure it must be the "Bright Star Dairy" that I was thinking of. It was located just as you say. It was actually a very residential area. A childhood friend grew up across the street from the dairy.

I remember as a kid, sometimes our mothers would give us a envelope with some money in it , and tell us to go over to the dairy to pay the milk bill. We were only 7-8 years old, and we`d just walk into the office on 9th street, tell them our name, and hand over the money.
