When I was a youngster, A friend of our family was a zoo keeper at Washington park zoo and part of his area was the Sampson cage. One day he took my older brother out to
the zoo to tag along with him while he did his work schedule. Well, he told my brother to go into a closet to get whatever and when my brother opened the
door it lead right to the gorilla cage and scared the you know what out of him. There was a Gated door beyond but he was real  close. The zoo keepers name was Wally. Nice man.

When Samson resided at the 'new zoo' on Bluemound Road, Sam LaMalfa was his main keeper.  Sam is still alive and can be met at his usual coffee time of 5 AM, (when they open) at the McDonalds on Oklahoma Avenue at 76th. Street.  He helped to publish a book about the life of Samson.  A copy of this book can be purchased from the gift shop at the Milwaukee Public Museum.  As the other reader mentioned, they have "Samson" stuffed and placed in a glass enclosure, at the museum.  Sam LaMalfa can be seen giving talks on many occasions, next to Samson's display case.  Contact the museum for dates and times when Sam will be there.  He has other Samson related artifacts to show, and is glad to answer questions.

Spent Way too much time hanging out at the Big Boys on Milwaukee`s Southside!

BUT, I did love the Big Boy Burger!

10X better then a Big Mac!

You might have one more chance to have a Big Boy, but I don`t think it will be the same!

I remember when I worked in a factory when I was young. Our Union had a dance once a year. One year it held at Muskego beach Ballroom!

Big old wooden building, with a crystal ball hanging from the ceiling. I think I also remember nets up there that they used to fill with balloons and drop on New Years Eve!

I remember Mitchell Street had a J C Penny`s.

It was two stories, with the floors made of hardwood.

When you walked around the floor "had some give to it".

It would spring up and down a little.

Pabst ?! Wait it still exists! But not the brewery. Wait , maybe it does?! Undecided

Pabst Blue Ribbon IS still brewed in Milwaukee by Miller Brewing Co.

But, the Pabst Brewery is gone. Well some of it is.  Huh

And, in a few months Pabst will be brewing again in one of their old brewery buildings.

This is getting confusing.

BUT, if you want to sort it all out, get a history lesson, and have a good time, take this tour - http://www.bestplacemilwaukee.com/tours.html

http://www.bestplacemilwaukee.com/

I took the tour this past week. If you think you know everything about 'Brew City", think again.

I learned a lot on the tour, and had a good time too. Wink
