Two Brothers Restaurant on the corner of Electric Avenue and Burnam St. in West Milwaukee, is a throwback to the past.  The place looks like it did in the '50s and prices are very reasonable too.  While it was very busy at noon during the week, it is a flash form the past and worth the visit.  While the cars have changed from the vintage picture, not much else has.  Anybody else been there?

North Milwaukee station no longer exists. I grew up just a few blocks from this station. I am not sure when it stopped serving passengers, but it was at one time, a busy spot for the Milwaukee Road. The Soo Line had trackage rights on one of the two lines that passed this station, so it may have been possible that the Soo also served passengers. A third line diverged a short distance to the south, and served the breweries downtown, as well as a couple of lumber yards, an oil products company, American Motors, and other industries. It was know as the Beerline B. The station was located at 33rd & Cameron. (between Hampton on the South, and villard on the north. There was an old wooden Railroad hotel on 35th and Cameron that served the railroad's passengers. By the 50's and 60's the station was being used by switch engine crews that worked assembling, and breaking up trains in Glendale Yards, just to the south of the old station. They also operated the short "way freights" that picked up, and dropped off cars along the local right of way. The station was torn down sometime in the 80's. In the 50's and 60's, A.O. Smith Company was producing so many car and truck frames, that the railroad was working 24/7 just shipping their goods. They also recieved much of their steel by rail.

No, it wasn't them, but thanks for the try! Trouble is I have so little to go on. I'm getting faint memories about a refrain saying,  "to ease that pain, to easer that pain. I got to go baby you know it. I got to go baby you know it, baby don't blow it, baby I gotta go." Or something like that. It was very Jazzy sounding.

Thanks. Huh

Might have been the Messengers. They had a single that charted at number 62 nationally in 1971 and were quite popular at the time.  Here is a link to the song.

Hi Everyone,

I have a question. There was a band in Milwaukee that put out an album in 1970-71 when I was a senior in high school. It came out in a plain brown album cover and was sold locally in all the music stores (you remember "1812 Overture" record store?).As I recall, it was quite good. Anyway, I can't remember the name of the band or their songs. Its driving me nuts!

Any help?

Don
